Virgin Money Giving Closing

It was great while it lasted...

In August 2021 Virgin Money announced the closure of its charity subsidiary company - Virgin Money Giving (VMG) after 12 years. As a result, Ziffit’s 19 month long partnership with VMG has sadly come to an end.

Over that time, many new customers joined us at Ziffit to raise funds for a cause close to their hearts. We reached many milestones and we’re very grateful to our customers for contributing to making this partnership such a success.

Together, we made a real difference

The benefits of our partnership were significant: 100% of the value of a Ziffit-VMG trade was sent directly to the chosen charity, allowing customers to not only clear out their cupboards of their old books and media but make a real difference whilst doing it. It was great to see so many customers get involved and turn their preloved items into donations.

This was especially relevant during the pandemic where Charity shops were forced to close suddenly, which proved a huge detriment to funding in the sector. We teamed up with VMG to encourage customers to #Declutteranddonate as part of Giving Tuesday on 5th May 2020, so that they could safely raise funds from the comfort of their own homes.

Not only could you donate to a breadth of charities, but also directly to individual fundraisers through their unique VMG link. This meant that many were able to support their families, friends and coworkers running the London Marathon through Ziffit.

Jo Barnett, Executive Director at Virgin Money Giving reflected on the importance of alternative fundraising methods, at the start of the pandemic.

“The vital services provided by charities are needed more than ever, yet COVID-19 has left many in crisis. Our new partnership will provide vital additional income and supports sustainable trading at a time when both are greatly needed.”

So, we realise that this partnership ending is disappointing, but we’re glad that our service was able to help provide support to charities throughout the peak of this difficult time.

Additionally, you know how the saying goes, when one door closes, another opens. We’ll continue to actively look for a new solution to enable our customers to donate through Ziffit, and once we’ve found something great, we’ll be sure to tell you as soon as possible.

Whether you joined us before or because of our Virgin Money Giving partnership, thank you for your support, and we hope you’ll continue to trade with us.

Did you raise money using VMG? Let us know in the comments!
